28-year-old from the Maitland suburb of Aberglassyn has man and could become the first Australian rider to take out the Dakar Rally, which is widely considered the toughest such endurance race in the world.

"Toby started racing when he was 14 old and it's always been his dream to be the best in the world," his father John Price said from his home town of Singleton.

"He's definitely showing he's got the talent to be the best in the world.

"If Toby pulls this off, it will be a fantastic achievement and I hope Australia gets behind him and will be proud

While the Dakar Rally does not have a Tour de France-style ceremonial final stage for the leader, it may as well have this year.

stage was effectively a victory procession for Price, who entered the stage with an insurmountable lead and only had to make it to the finish line to become the first Australian to win the Dakar Rally.

He finished fourth on the stage, good enough to win the motorbike title by 39:41 from Stefan Svitko.
